flying months and clean garages

Whoa.

Did anyone catch the name of that month that flew by?

I think it was June. Great gravy. (Or should I say jalapeno! Will anyone get that reference? It's from an old cartoon. If you've got a guess, send it to me. I'll put your name into a drawing for a signed copy of one of my books.)

It's been a mild summer here in the Panhandle. At least I think so. There were only a few three digit days so far and it's been nice.

OH! Almost forgot! I think I might have a really good idea for Mason story. Yes, the one Ranger giving me grief may soon have his story told. I'm sure some of you are thinking, "Well, it's about time." I agree. HA!

I'm also working on new billionaire books. These guys are awesome. Bear, Josiah, Hunter, and Wyatt are from a little town called Caprock Canyon. They've each got a story to tell and I hope to have them out soon.

Okay, I'll let you go. Feel free to email me and tell me how your summer is going so far. I suspect it's more exciting than mine. I've spent the last week cleaning out my garage. Hahahahaha.

heat and trains

How are you guys? How’s your summer so far? It’s getting hot here in the Texas Panhandle.

Whooo doggy is it hot and it’s not even three-digits-hot yet. I think I’ll melt when it does that.

My husband and I have worked on our garage the last couple of days. I‘m making it my mission to park my car in there in the very near future. Plus, we have so much junk. Why keep it? Let it goooooooo.

We’ve got one side clear and now have the other. When my oldest was younger she loved (still does) trains and she wanted a large N-Scale set and we have a 4x8 piece of plywood we’d planned to build it on.

Only, that didn’t happen. We have the table, but retail is a hard job. My husband was working 70-80 hours a week. When he came home he was exhausted.

So now that he owns his own business, he’s trying to restart this project for my big baby (not derogatory because she is my big baby. Man, I love that girl.) And she’s super excited because this is something she wanted to work on with her daddy.

fences and burnt wicks

Oh, my stars. I am pooped ya’ll. My husband and I have been working on our backyard—cleaning up from the winter of neglect. Good gracious it was a total mess. But! We have a new fence and gate (no more, “But mom, I can’t take out the trash because...”).

It’s fixed now! Hahahahaha!

I’ve taken a long break from writing, and I need to get back to it. I think I was so burnt out, I didn’t realize just how much I needed a break. It didn’t help coming down with a sinus infection, but again, it forced me to take a step back—and I needed it.

Once my yard is finished, which should be this weekend, I’m sitting myself down and getting back to work. I need to work and I’ve missed writing. Wish me luck and send prayers. Ha! (I kid, but seriously, I’ll take the luck and prayers!)

out with may and into june

I’m late this week. I hate it when I forget things, and boy, did I forget to send this out.

What was I doing that had me forgetting?

Cleaning up my backyard. Oi. What a mess it was from this past winter. Dead leaves, branches trimmed from our trees, and trash that had blown in from who knows where.

I feel rather old this morning too. This whole business of bending over, raking, and all that jazz is hard on a body.

May seemed to flash before my eyes. Between the writer’s conference, the mini-vacation, and life...it zoomed by like a drive-by-fruiting. (Mrs. Doubtfire reference if you’re scratching your head, wondering.)

The conference was fun. I got to meet several people, including the rest of my critique group (minus one—Shannon couldn’t make it this year. We missed her too.)

Britney’s family was fun. Her kiddos are full of energy and spunk. They were too cute!

Deb is so funny and sweet. She brought me funeral potatoes. Ha! I’d never heard of such a thing. They were...interesting. Hahahaha

I’d met Julie at a previous conference the year before. As always, it was fun to see her and spend time with her.

Plus, I got to meet my personal assistant, Kami. Talk about a sweetheart. She saves my bacon a lot. (Like, messaging me and saying, “Hey...you didn’t send out your newsletter. What’s up?)

In general, it was so fun. I even got to meet Elana Johnson. She’s just as awesome in person as in her videos. I really enjoyed talking to her. I like her joy approach to writing. It’s easy to get stressed about things and forget the joy. I don’t want to forget my joy and love of writing.

My mini-vacation was a blast. We checked out an all-you-can-play arcade in Richardson. It was so fun. Then we headed to Dinosaur World where my girls enjoyed digging for fossils. Before we left, we strolled around the mall and hit up the LEGO store.

All-in-all, my May was pretty great. How was yours? Are you ready for the summer? I think I am. It is summer, so winging it is okay. Ha!

Okay, it’s the weekend and it’s time for relaxation. See you all next Friday. Have an awesome weekend and an even better week!
