Elijah
Army Ranger Romance, #5
On this week's edition of Good Grief, Bree, Elijah is the subject. This book was the second-ever book to feature a Christian character. Again, I tried to make him a character who happened to be Christian.
Now, this one, I do remember some of the complaints. The most common being that Elijah was too emotional. In my mind though, he'd just found out that he'd lost the woman he considered to be his mom. His biological mom was mean, cruel, and fixated on money. Most men I know have a close bond with their moms, and I couldn't see a man not being shaken by the news, especially if they weren't told of her passing which was the case for Elijah.
For him, it wasn't just her death, it was the fact that his high school sweetheart, who was supposed to love him, didn't even bother to call him and tell him. So, not only did he have the heartbreak of losing his mom, but he had Taylor's betrayal as well. It was a double whammy on top of an already emotional situation.
I did get complaints about it being Christian, but by the time this one came out, I didn't care anymore. It was what it was. Not every book is for every person and not every person is for every book. I have to write what I want to write too.
Over all, I was pretty pleased with myself because I'd done the second-chance trope, and I thought I did a pretty decent job with it. There was a solid reason why they couldn't just sit down and talk about it. That said, I still doing my. best to avoid that trope. I just struggle too much with it.
